after a long day of battling ‘hipsterville’ and trying to maintain my dignity as a relatively sane human being, i needed to sit down and decompress. the day started with a desire to get a ‘good cup of joe’ but after being unfairly bitched out, in my opinion, by the elvis costello look-alike, i have decided that though my coffee was good, he had no right to be so rude. NO RIGHT!!! we were just trying to re-use our cups… who cares if they were starbucks cups…geez. i wish bad tips on his life! we ended up in this quaint bookstore located in the hub of delicious mexican food taquerias, where we noshed on shrimp tosados. i sat and mulled over the day, not so quietly, as alex attempted to start the ever-so-daunting graphic novella of sorts. perhaps the month is good ole sac-town will do him some good, rubbing shoulders with fellow doodlers, and out of the grasp of clingy, annoying, needy girlfriends…who shall remain nameless.

She is listening intently to Alex’s comic wisdom. I’ve heard it a million times, so i’m just doodling in the background, like a good student should.

Hyo f. Davis is eating a chocolate muffin from Miss’s Donuts, one of the lovely establishments that hosts Eyeball Burp at least twice a week. See, I guess I am now on the way home from where she is currently working, so I get the wonderful pleasure of sitting with her and contemplating where we are headed in life. We realize that our lives dwell heavily in the future, and most of our focus is where we soon will be (she plans on living on an organic farm in southern France)– soon.
She tells a story of a 32 mile bike ride with Nancy. The two of them rode from Seal Beach to Huntington Beach, and she gestures wildly to express how tired she was on the ride home. Legs fatigued, throat parched, and bike tires squeaking, Nancy held to pull Hyo the last 6 miles. I tried to imagine myself on such a bike ride, and how weak sauce I am, and how I would have died too. She says that she had to stop 3X in that 6 hour journey, once for coffee and a banana, once for tacos, and once for a sandwich.
We all need to push ourselves this hard sometimes…. We appauld you, Hyo F. Davis!
